I was feeling really down about my weight and body shape. I knew I needed to lose a lot of weight, but I wasn’t sure how to go about it properly.
I was also conscious that I had lost some muscle mass, and a lot of fitness and strength as well, plus I found that I was getting out of breath more quickly than usual.
My GP referred me to a wellbeing organisation that told me about GutBusters and how they specialise in helping men to improve their health, lose weight and get fitter. I said I would be interested in seeing if they could help so they referred me on to GutBusters.
I didn’t want to go to somewhere like Slimming World or Weight Watchers as this didn’t appeal to me as they are too female orientated.
I just wanted to be somewhere where I could be myself.
I was looking to join a gym, but felt a bit uncomfortable going due to my weight and what people might think of me.
I also needed someone that could give me advice on exercise and how to get fitter and stronger as well.
I felt that GutBusters related more to what I wanted and needed to help me to achieve my goals.
They were geared towards working with men, but could also give help and support not only for losing weight, but also on exercise, fitness and nutrition.
I went to a health check that GutBusters were running at DW gym and met Ian and James. They were really friendly and non-judgemental. We talked about what changes I could make in my lifestyle to help me start achieving my goals.
One of the first changes we talked about was doing more exercise to help lose weight by burning off calories, getting fitter and putting on some muscle to increase my metabolism.
I told them that while I wanted to join a gym, I felt uncomfortable due to my weight and size.
They contacted Pure Gym on my behalf and arranged to meet me there to look at the best types of exercises to do for weight loss and getting fitter. They also wrote me out a training plan and went through it with me so I could get the most out of my workouts.
Weight wise I have gone from 26 st 9 lb to 13 st 12, meaning I’ve lost 12 st 11 lb. My body shape has improved and I’ve gained muscle. My clothes are feeling a lot looser than they did before.
My fitness and strength has increased a lot. When I started I could only manage about 5 minutes cardio and now I can do over 60 minutes. I’m also getting less back pain than I did before, and my confidence and mood is better and I’m feeling less anxious and a lot more positive than before.
